Welcome to the center of Oregon! The high desert city of Prineville
is located in the approximate center of the state. Lying in the fertile
green valleys of Crooked River and Ochoco Creek, Prineville is surrounded
by higher areas such as Grizzly Mtn., Powell Butte, and the not too
distant Ochoco Mtns. Prineville is the county seat for Crook County.
Prineville and Crook County are home to many types of businesses including:
farming, ranching, tourism, and manufacturing. The diverse economy has
kept Crook County growing at a steady pace for the past several years.
Don't let the growth fool you though, Prineville is still very much
a small community with a slow-paced lifestyle. You'll find it relaxing
not to battle rush hour traffic, and enjoyable to walk into a store
and be called by your first name. If you need a dose of the city life
once in a while, it is only a short drive to Bend, and a couple of hours
away from Portland. Crook County is abundant with recreational activities.
Nearly half of the county is federally owned; this provides many areas
for fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, skiing, and boating.
