Schools

The Crook County School District currently consists of seven schools where approximately 3,260 students attend classes. The new high school was built in 1996 and provides students with excellent facilities to learn and play sports. The modern high school is a two-story contemporary-styled high school with several gymnasiums, a large computer lab and an auditorium. The middle school now resides in the former high school complex and has been recently remodeled. The five elementary schools are scattered across town and in two other outlying communities to accommodate children from all areas of Crook County.

An integrated curriculum offers a balance of emotional, physical, social, and academic learning.  The academy is a year-round, coeducational school located in the Ochoco National Forest along the Ochoco Highway, and students live on site.  The school usually has between 80 and 100 students enrolled from the United States and Internationally.

Three different preschools provide early education for children 3 and 4 years of age.

Prineville is also able to offer higher education classes through Central Oregon Community College. The college takes advantage of satellite and computer technology to provide credit courses taught at the main campus in Bend.
